Abortion bills in Michigan would keep politics out of exam room | Guest column

There is a lot of talk in this country around healthcare. Part of that conversation includes the need for our elected officials to leave politics out of the decision-making process for doctors who work in abortion and reproductive healthcare. As one of those doctors, I have spent years being trained to provide the best possible care for my patients. I took an oath to uphold medical standards, and I am bound by not only my commitment and passion, but by many existing rules and regulations requiring me to keep my patientâs best interest and health at the forefront when advising and administering medical care. Many of our elected officials, urged by the destructive efforts of anti-abortion groups, have ignored the fact that every medical professional must abide by stringent rules.
