Bosma gives Nisly's proposed abortion ban a cold reception
Indianapolis Star

House Speaker Brian Bosma gave a cold reception Tuesday to a fellow Republican lawmaker's proposal to ban abortion in Indiana."I donât think we should buy a lawsuit, personally," Bosma said, referring to the almost certain prospect that the measure would be challenged in court and ruled unconstitutional. His comments came on the ceremonial first day of the 2017 Indiana General Assembly, which begins in earnest Jan. 4. Twenty-one new House and Senate members joined returning lawmakers in taking their oath of office and posing for photographs with family members, while interest groups held events to advocate causes, including an expansion of state-funded preschool and the addition of civil rights protections for gay and transgender people.Bosma opened the session with a call to move past the heated rhetoric of the campaign season and focus on issues such as road and education funding.
