Planned Parenthood sues over law governing parental consent before abortions

Planned Parenthood sues over law governing parental consent before abortions
Indianapolis Star

Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky has filed a federal lawsuit against the state of Indiana challenging a new law regulating abortions obtained by minors. The organization is seeking an injunction to stop enforcement of the law, which the suit calls "constitutionally deficient," from going into effect.Senate Enrolled Act 404 allows judges to notify a minor's parents that she's seeking court permission to obtain an abortion.Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill told IndyStar that his office plans to defend the lawsuit."Our staff is reviewing the lawsuit filed today by Planned Parenthood," he wrote. "We look forward to defending the rights of parents and the welfare of children that are under attack by this lawsuit."Proponents call the law an expanded protection of parental rights, but opponents see it as an additional hurdle to a woman's right to choose.
